DONATION TO HELP THE NEED

As a respond to the office of the president to help the need, BAC hospitality class planned and organized a donation event for one of the identified person in Gerald, Francistown. These kind of events are known as cooperate social responsibility events, which refers to give back to the community (Clarke & Chen, 2007).

During the event an organizational structure was designed. Capell (2013) state that organizational structure is needed to produce the events and have an existing structure that can be adopted to suit the needs of the event . Also Conway (2009) state that typical structure is an event committee that oversees an event and is responsible for the day to day implementation through the event coordinator. Furthermore the author argues that the event committee should include a range of people with strong standing and with a good mix of leadership and decision making skills.

However the commit that was chosen during the event wasn’t active enough to carry their tasks, for example, donation sheets were given to the class raps by the coordinator without notifying the commit and donation boxes that were supposed to be displayed in both BAC campuses in Francistown for students to donate clothes in were not displayed as agreed. This resulted in other donors hold back their donations as there were told that there will be donation boxes in place.
Even though the event took place, lack of appropriate coordination by the chosen committee affected some of the on-set evaluated aspects.

Events such as wine testing are well known of pulling massive crowed of wine lovers, and some hospitality sectors nowadays use this form of events to also market their establishment. But were people gather together there is a critical part of the overall event process and should be included in the overall event planning, which is waste management (Bowdin et al, 2012).

Waste management is an appropriate process of disposing waste Moonga, M. (2011). A waste wise event takes responsibility for waste management with waste and recycling collection services. According to Bladen, C. et al, (2012) state that one has to develop a waste wise plan for the event and also to encourage attendees to participate actively in waste management efforts.

During the event waste disposal equipment’s were placed in every corner of the event, coded differently in accordance with the type of waste, for an example a bin for cans, a bin for bottles, a bin for left over foods and a bin for papers. Effective wise waste management can modify the impact on the event.

This event was designed to give back to the community by BAC hospitality class. Also as way to take part in the Botswana vision 2016 pillars campaign of compassionate and caring nation. Furthermore hospital catering are non- commercial sectors of hospitality (Dahmer & Kahl, 2009). The class took part in the preparation of the patients’ meals during the day.

Evidence showed that menu was designed according to the recommendation from the dietitians and sectioned in the kitchen with the cold prep kitchen preparing salads and desserts, the hot kitchen preparing meats and starches and dietitian section preparing for special needs. However a menu is a set of dishes or courses that appeal to the customer and supplement all the nutrients necessary to customers (Lillicrap & Cousins, 2010). In this scenario patients are the hospitality customers and the menu was designed support their recovery. For the patients who find it difficult to feed themselves there were given supplementary meals. However nutritional care is a key in helping the recovering of patients in hospitals (Food for Thought, 2011).
